Section 20 of the Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts Act assigns
authority to the Illinois Department of Agriculture to determine how SWCD elections
will be conducted, as well as who is eligible to vote and who can hold office.

GOVERNING BODY OF THE DISTRICT:  The governing body of the SWCD shall consist of 5 Directors.  Three of the five will be elected during the months of January or February in even numbered years; the remaining two will be elected during the same time period in odd numbered years.

ELIGIBILITY TO HOLD OFFICE:  To be eligible to hold the office of an SWCD Director, a person must be of legal voting age and must own or occupy land within the boundaries of the District.

APPLICATION TO RUN FOR OFFICE:  Applications are due to the SWCD office by the December prior to the election.  If you are interested in becoming a director, feel free to contact us anytime to get on the list for the next election. 

TAKING OFFICE:  Terms of office commence the first Monday in March of the year elected.

NOTICE OF ELECTION:  Two election notices are published in at least one area newspaper.

ELIGIBILITY TO VOTE:  To be eligible to vote in a District election, a person must be of legal voting age and must own or occupy land within the District’s boundaries.

ELECTION:  Voting is held at the Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation District office in Mount Carroll, during normal office hours.

Board meetings are held on the first Monday of each month.  Meetings are held in the conference room in our office building at 807C South Clay St. Mt. Carroll.  Any Carroll County land owner or occupant is welcome to attend.  Changes to the meeting time, date, or location will be posted on this webpage.
